For the seventh time in nine years, University of Wisconsin-Superior student-athletes have earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Academic Award for the Yellowjacket athletic program.

The WIAC Academic Award is presented each year to conference members whose student-athletes post a higher overall grade point average than their university's undergraduate student body as a whole. For the 2008-2009 academic year, Yellowjacket student-athletes recorded a total cumulative GPA of 2.992 compared to 2.964 for the student body overall.

In addition, 125 Yellowjacket student-athletes were named to the WIAC 2008-09 Scholastic Honor Roll. To qualify, each student-athlete had to take part in at least one sport, earn a minimum of 24 semester credits during the academic year, and earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

"We are extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes," UW-Superior Athletic Director Steve Nelson said. "They embody the true meaning of what an NCAA Division III athlete should be."

Carlton County area UW-Superior student-athletes named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll are Samantha Anderson of Wrenshall, women's basketball; Wendy Bowman of Wrenshall, women's basketball and volleyball; Jenna Halverson of Barnum, women's cross country and women's track; and Brittany Jarvis of Esko, volleyball.
