BLAINE, Minn. — The first shootout of the season for the Minnesota Wilderness turned into the first shootout loss of the season as the El Paso Rhinos prevailed 3-2 after the extra session in game three of the North American Hockey League Showcase on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Schwan's Super Rink.

Bo Cosman of El Paso and Cole Gordon of the Wilderness exchanged goals in the first period before Minnesota took the lead 7:03 into the second period on Jack Seaverson's second goal of the season. The lead didn't last, as Donovan O'Neill tied it 40 seconds into the third period.

That was the last scoring from open play in the game, and in the three-round shootout, El Paso leadoff man Frank Tafelski was the only scorer.

Isak Posch made 29 saves for Minnesota (1-3-1). The Wilderness conclude their four-game week in Blaine with a 5:15 p.m. game on Saturday vs. Bismarck.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
