Cloquet native Tyler Johnson, a Colorado College senior forward and alternate captain, has been named the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division I Player of the Month for December.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound forward scored seven goals and collected seven assists while boasting a +6 plus/minus rating as the Tigers won six of eight decisions last month. He also recorded the game-winning goal in each of the team's last four victories, including a 5-4 triumph over Michigan State University at last month's Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit.

Johnson also picked up a pair of assists in that contest, then recorded his sixth multiple-point performance of the month with a goal and an assist in CC's 6-5 loss to the No. 10 University of Michigan a night later in the GLI championship contest.

Johnson, who leads the nation with nine power-play goals, added two to his total in December. At the midway point of the season, he already has tied career highs of 14 goals and nine assists overall for 23 points, which he established as a junior in 2009-10. He sits in a tie for second place in the WCHA with 14 goals this season.
