The YoungLife 5K is returning to Cloquet Aug. 28 after being canceled in 2020 and postponed earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The sixth annual race will take place at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 28 at Journey Church, 1400 Washington Ave., Cloquet, with registration starting at 8 a.m. The 5K walk begins at 9 a.m. All participants will receive a T-shirt, and the event will also feature a kids’ run, raffle and other prizes.
YoungLife is a youth organization founded in the 1940s. It began in Cloquet in 2001. The faith-based group invites “kids to follow Christ” but pledges to “care for them regardless of their response,” according to the website. The group has bonfires scheduled every Monday in August and other activities like paintball and river tubing on other days.
The YoungLife 5K is one of three annual fundraisers for the organization. Proceeds provide programming and activities for youth at little or no cost to the participants.
For the first time in the event’s history, the 5K will feature chip-timing.
Registration is $20 for those 18 and over and is free for anyone under 18.
