A run scratched out in the first inning by Superior was enough for a 1-0 victory vs. Northwood/Solon Springs in a non-conference baseball game at Minong on Friday, May 13.
Carter Kalin scored that run as part of a double steal with George Hansen.
From there, the teams were locked in a pitcher's duel, with Kell Piggott and Jayden Hoffman of Superior matching up against Kaden Corlett and Colby Latvala for Northwood/Solon Springs.
Piggott scattered six hits and three walks in five shutout innings before Hoffman allowed two hits in two innings for the save. Corlett allowed one run on five hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking three. Latvala allowed one hit in the seventh.
Kalin, who was 2-for-4, was the only player on either side to have a hit. The teams combined for 11 singles.
