Prep baseball preview: Barnum Bombers

The Bombers possess a strong mix of experienced upperclassmen and talented newcomers this season.

Head coach: Tony Bender

Assistant coaches: Dave Dueslor and Jeff Gilbertson

Returning starters : Seniors JJ Stevens (catcher) and Henry Dammer (pitcher/first baseman); junior Caleb Hautajarvi (pitcher/shortstop).

New faces: Freshmen Eli Gilbertson (pitcher, second, shortstop) and Landen Otterer (outfield/infield).

Team Strengths: Pitching and defense are the team's strong points, according to coach Tony Bender.

Biggest Challenge: The Bombers' biggest obstacle will be hitting due to weather delays this spring, according to Bender.

Coach's assessment

"I feel this team this year will have a good core of older veteran players combined with some younger players, which will allow us to be more consistent and competitive," Bender said. "We have good numbers, and players that can play a variety of positions on the field.  I expect this team to be over .500 this season, and make a long push into the playoffs."
