Prep report: Solon Springs boys cruise in playoff game

The Eagles advanced easily to a regional semifinal at home against Prentice on Friday.

SOLON SPRINGS — Third-seeded Solon Springs made quick work of Lac Courte Oreilles in a Wisconsin Division 5 boys basketball tournament opener, winning 79-43 on Tuesday.

The Eagles, who led 43-20 at halftime, earned their second win over LCO in a week.

Six Eagles had eight or more points, led by Isaiah Kastern's 20 points. Colby Latvala added 11.

Solon Springs (18-6) advances to host Prentice (14-10), the sixth seed, on Friday in a regional semifinal. Prentice dismissed Mercer 94-50 on Tuesday.

Duluth East 61, Duluth Denfeld 51

A 22-point night from Jobe Juenemann led the Greyhounds to a home victory over their city rivals.

East (13-12), which got above .500 with its third straight win, had a balanced offensive effort. Will Van Scoy and Luke Lieberz scored 13 points apiece and Isaac Nyakundi added 11.

Denfeld falls to 3-22 on the season.

Cherry 81, Duluth Marshall 47

Isaac and Noah Asuma had a dominant outing for the 21-4 Tigers. Isaac Asuma finished with a double-double of 30 points and 11 rebounds and Noah Asuma 20 points and 11 boards.

On Monday, Isaac Asuma became Cherry's all-time leading scorer of either gender when he got his 1,798th career point in a win over Hill City/Northland.

Esko 95, Pine City 86 (OT)

Koi Perich had another big night, scoring 44 points as the Eskomos won the overtime period by a 15-6 margin. Dalton Spindler kicked in 19 points for Esko (21-3).
