Ten Northland area snowboarders placed among the nation's top competitors at this year's USASA Nationals (United States of America Snowboard Association) snowboard competition held at Copper Mountain, Colo., April 1-6.
Team members Abby Benser, Sierra Hayden and Amber Zierden competed in the Girls 14-15 division. Benser competed in Slalom, Giant Slalom and Boardercross. In the alpine disciplines Slalom and Giant Slalom she placed seventh and third. In Boardercross she took seventh.
Hayden competed in Slopestyle, Halfpipe and Boardercross, placing 20th in Slopestyle, 16th in Halfpipe and 19th in Boardercross. Zierden competed in Slopestyle and Halfpipe, taking fifth in Slopestyle and 10th in Halfpipe.
In the girls 10-11 division, Hannah Sandman of Cloquet competed in Slopestyle and Boardercross, placing 13th in Slopestyle and 15th in Boardercross.
Competing in the Boys 14-15 division were Karsten Fetter, Ben Nickles and Andy Stingle. Fetter placed 36th in Halfpipe and 50th in Boardercross. Nickles placed 40th in Halfpipe and 32nd in Giant Slalom. Stingle placed 63rd in Slopestyle.

Dylan Lynch and Hunter Rackliffe competed in the Boys 16-17 division, both in Slopestyle and Halfpipe. In Slopestyle, Lynch placed 27th and Rackliffe placed 18th. In Halfpipe, Lynch placed 16th and Rackliffe placed 13th.
Representing Men's Open Class, Chris Stingle claimed 43rd in Slopestyle.
These riders had been training since early September with the Midwest's premiere snowboard team, the G Team. The G Team works with riders of all ability levels and ages in competitive and non-competitive teams. Watch for these riders to continue to push themselves in next year's competition series.
