The Chub Lake swimming beach is temporarily closed due to high levels of E. coli found in the water, according to an alert sent by Carlton County officials on Friday, June 23.
The alert advised the public to avoid contact with the water, stating that the beach would be closed until further notice.
The Carlton County Property Management Department monitors the lake, testing E. coli levels on a weekly basis, according to the Carlton County website . An E. coli advisory is posted if a single water sample returns E. coli levels exceeding 235 colonies per 100 milliliters of water, or if a five-sample E. coli average during a 30-day period is greater than 126 colonies per 100 milliliters of water.
