Mandatory Trapper Education Certificate Minnesota law requires "effective March 1, 2007, a person born after December 31, 1989 who has not been issued a trapping license in a previous license year may not obtain a trapping license without a Trapper Education Certificate. The Minnesota Trappers Association will conduct courses State-wide, free of charge to the participants and issue certificates that satisfy this new trapping license requirement."

Trapper education classes will be offered by Minnesota Trapper Instructors Wayne and Liz Thom at their home on Sept. 13, 20 and 27 from 12:30- 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in trapping may attend including adults and parents of students. The classes are open to both boys and girls. Students should be at least 11 years old by trapping season. Attendance at all three classes is required. The Thoms will be assisted by other area trappers and conservation officers.

The classes will consist of workbook and field experiences. Students will learn about different furbearers, their habitats and characteristics. They will meet with a conservation officer and learn safety rules, trapping ethics and state statutes that govern trapping. Students will practice setting water and land sets in the field experiences.
