Moose Lake Area goalie Jo Wekseth stopped 53 shots, but the Rebels lost 3-2 in triple overtime to Hibbing-Chisholm in the Section 7A quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Hibbing.

MLA seventh-grader Sandra Ribich scored midway through the third period to tie the game and force overtime.

After two periods of scoreless hockey, the Bluejackets’ McKenna Folstad got a shot past Wekseth less than two minutes into the third overtime.

Sophomore Raechel Painovich scored the other Rebel goal in the second period. Allie Bussey scored a first period goal for the Bluejackets and Courtney Anderson scored in the second.

MLA (12-13) made some big strides this season, improving by 10 wins from the 2018-19 season. The team will need to replace Wekseth in net next year, but much of the team’s core are sophomores or younger.

Seven players on the 2019-20 squad were on a 12 and under state championship team last year.
