Cloquet golfer Sam Baker was eliminated from contention at the U.S. Junior Amateur Open after shooting 9-over par Monday and Tuesday at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst.

On the Cardinal Course Monday, Baker struggled out of the gate, bogeying his first two holes, and recorded six bogeys on his way to a 6-over-par round.

Baker was 1-under par through six holes Tuesday after recording a birdie on the 519-yard par-5 sixth hole, but four bogeys over the final 12 holes doomed his effort to get into the 64-player match play field that highlights the final four days of the tournament.

Kelly Chin of Great Falls, Virgnia, led the stroke play portion of the tournament at 11-under par, including an 8-under par round on the Cardinal Course on the first day of the tournament.
