Girls hockey: Nelson nets hat trick in Lumberjacks’ win

CEC next plays Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Princeton

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton senior Taylor Nelson scored three times and recorded four total points in the Lumberjacks’ 6-1 home win over Duluth Northern Stars on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Nelson scored on a power play at 2:45 and Dea DeLeon scored a 6:33 to give the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead at the break.

Nelson scored a short-handed goal midway through the second period and Dan Jones added a goal at 16:43.

Nelson scored on a power play in the third period and Kiana Bender added another goal at the 14:00 mark to go along with her three assists.

DeLeon added two assists to her goal, with Tenley Stewart and Emmie Ellena also picking up an assist in the Lumberjacks’ win.

CEC goalie Araya Kiminski stopped 16 shots in the win and Northern Stars goalie Sarah Spencer had 25 saves.

CEC (8-2) are next scheduled to play at Princeton at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17.
