Girls hockey: ‘Jacks roll past Rebels

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton beat Northern Lakes 5-1 on Monday, Dec. 23; Moose Lake Area will play Luverne at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton sophomore Dana Jones scored two goals to lift the Lumberjacks to a 5-1 win at Moose Lake Area on Friday, Dec. 20.

Jones scored her first goal at the 8:40 mark of the first period, giving CEC a 2-0 lead after senior Kiana Bender’s goal 2 minutes into the game.

Jones and Bender would combine for two more goals in the second period and Taylor Nelson would add a third period goal for the Lumberjacks.

CEC peppered Rebel goaltender Jo Wekseth with 51 shots, while the MLA offense generated just 13 shots in the game.

Wekseth made 46 saves in the game and senior Savannah Gamst broke up the shut out with a goal at the 13:14 mark of the third period.

CEC goalie Araya Kiminski finished with 12 saves.

CEC (11-2) played at Northern Lakes Monday, Dec. 23. The Lumberjacks won 5-1.

MLA (4-8) is scheduled to play Luverne Monday, Dec. 30, at the Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
