Girls hockey: ‘Jacks overpower Rebels

CEC to next host Grand Rapids-Greenway on Monday, Nov. 26; MLA to host St. Francis/North Branch on Thursday, Nov. 21

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton got goals from seniors Dea DeLeon and Kiana Bender to secure a 2-1 home win over Moose Lake Area on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

DeLeon scored late in the first period to give the Lumberjacks a lead and Kiana Bender scored with about 3 minutes to play in the third period.

MLA senior Jamie Benzie scored with less than a minute to play to break up the shutout.

CEC peppered Rebel goaltender Jo Wekseth with shots throughout the night, but the senior made 50 saves to keep her team in the game.

Lumberjack goalie Lauren Maslowski stopped 14 of 15 shots to preserve the win.

CEC (3-2) with is scheduled to play at home against Grand Rapids-Greenway at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26.

MLA (1-3) is scheduled to host St. Francis/North Branch at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.
