Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College has started its basketball seasons — though one team has yet to take to the court.

Brian Burtnyk’s men’s team is off to a 1-2 start. After winning its opener 61-55 against Crown College, the Thunder dropped a pair of more recent decisions: 75-64 against Lake Superior College on Nov. 13 and 117-53 against Riverland Community College on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Riverland (5-0) rolled up a 63-17 lead in the first half and won going away. They were led by 24 points from Terrell Smith on 9-for-13 shooting and outrebounded the Thunder 58-35 for the evening.

FDLTCC was led by Antonio Morrell’s 18 points, but Riverland shot 54% from three-point range and hit 13 three-point shots in the win.

Against Lake Superior College, Kenel Beaubrun scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Thunder, which had four players in double figures on the night. Camden Berger scored 12 points, Tiquan McMiller added 11 and Morrell scored 10.

However, four starters were in double figures for Lake Superior, with Branley Previl’s 17 points leading all scorers.

Meanwhile, Robert Smith’s women’s team has yet to take to the floor after having its first two games postponed.

The team was scheduled to play doubleheaders with the men against Lake Superior and Riverland, but neither game was played.

According to the team website, the team has only six rostered players and likely faces an uphill struggle. The program did not play at all two seasons ago and has not won a game since the 2015-16 season, when it won five games.

The women are next scheduled to face the University of Wisconsin-Superior junior varsity on Dec. 2.

The men are next slated to play Dec. 6 at Gogebic Community College.
