The National Junior College Athletic Association announced Monday it will move some of its fall sports to the spring of 2021 as a precautionary measure during the coronavirus pandemic.

Those sports include football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. In addition, winter sports such as basketball will begin in January, rather than traditionally opening in the fall.

Sports deemed low risk, such as cross country, will be permitted to compete in the fall.

The Minnesota College Athletic Conference competes in the NJCAA and consists of 24 two-year colleges in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin, including Lake Superior College in Duluth and Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet.
