Cody Grashorn’s Cloquet junior baseball team didn’t win a game last weekend, but they sure scored some memories.
Representing the state of Minnesota, Grashorn’s community-based squad played in the Central Regional Junior Baseball Championships in Fort Wayne, Ind. Over four days, Cloquet competed in four games among the 11 participants.
Champions of the state and District 3 in mid-July, Cloquet continued their late-summer play last weekend with losses to North Dakota, Michigan, Kentucky and Illinois.
Outscored 38-14 in their four games, Grashorn said his team of 13 players could never get their bats going.
Cloquet’s closest game, an 8-7 setback to Kentucky club Sunday, fell away in the last inning.

Monday, after a 12-2 defeat to Illinois, Grashorn said his boys enjoyed a minor league game between the Fort Wayne TinCaps and Lansing Lugnuts - only adding to a barbeque, team parade and lots of swimming to the near 1,300-mile bus trip.
“We are on the bus, on our way home now,” Grashorn said by phone Tuesday afternoon. “We went 0-4, but it was an experience that I don’t think any of the kids will ever forget.”
