Duncan Snider and Blake Thiesse earned pitching wins as Upper Iowa clipped Minnesota Duluth 4-3 and 2-1 in the Bulldogs’ season-opening NSIC home doubleheader Friday at Wade Stadium.

Snider allowed two runs on six hits in five innings of the seven-inning opener. Tim Pokornowski of Cloquet had an RBI single as UMD rallied in the bottom of the seventh but reliever Chris Webber, who allowed one run over two innings, got out of the jam to earn the save. UMD’s Mitchell Waletzki took the loss despite allowing just three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Thiesse tossed a nine-inning nine-hitter while striking out five to lead the Peacocks (7-8 overall, 6-5 NSIC) in the rematch. Brandt Kolpack, Anderse Brown and Jack Puder had two hits apiece to lead the Bulldogs (4-11, 2-10) while Ben Shepard took the loss despite allowing just two runs and seven hits while striking out five in 7 2/3 innings.
