Esko topped Morris and St. Charles, but their run to a Division II Junior American Legion state title ended with an 11-3 loss to Aitkin in the championship game Sunday, Aug. 11, in St. Charles.
Pitcher Noah Furcht was dominant against Morris in the quarterfinals, allowing two hits and striking out 11 in an 8-0 win. Cale Haugen and Avery Liljigren each scored two runs and Furcht was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the game.
After a 5-0 win over St. Charles in the semifinals, Esko’s pitching hadn’t allowed a single run. That changed, however, with Morris jumping out to an 8-0 lead with two runs in the fourth and another six in the fifth inning.
Haugen sparked a small rally with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Eskomos could only muster three runs in the inning and couldn’t put together any more offense in the final inning of play.
