CROSBY, MINN. -- Unranked Sebeka pulled off a Goliath upset over defending state champion Barnum 78-70 in overtime at the Section 5A girls basketball champonship game Friday night at Crosby-Ironton High School.

The Trojans (24-6) used a well-balanced offensive attack, gutsy defense and relentless ability to answer the bell nearly every time the No. 2 state-ranked Bombers (26-4) scored.

Sebeka trailed Barnum late in regulation, but a half a dozen turnovers -- including three straight at one point -- plagued the Bombers in the late stages of the nail-biter. The Trojans capitalized on those mistakes, as they nailed a free throw and banked a put back with 4 seconds left to tie the game at 68-68.

Barnum senior Jessica Newman heaved a half-court desperation shot that hit the backboard but didn't fall as things went into an extra frame.

In overtime, Barnum scored just a couple points while Sebeka cashed in from the stripe. The Trojans won by eight.

Four players scored in double digits for Sebeka, as they countered Newman's game-best 42 points for the Bombers.
