SUPERIOR — The annual Twin Ports Twin 25s auto racing event is 7 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior.

The event features two 25-lap Late Model features and a purse of more than $33,000. Every year at least 10 drivers have taken more than $1,000 from the event, according to track promoter Joe Stariha.

This year’s event is also the grand finale of the new XR Northern Storm series, for Late Models, Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds. The series was scheduled Monday for Ogilvie, Minnesota, Tuesday for Grand Rapids Speedway, Wednesday for Hibbing Raceway and Thursday for ABC Raceway in Ashland.

“We’re expecting 40 to 50 Late Models,” Stariha said.

The Twin 25s feature $2,000-to-win payouts for both Late Model features, with a $500 bonus going to the driver with the highest combined finish in the two features. If a driver wins both, that bonus doubles to $1,000.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
