The Cloquet football team will have its share of challenges this fall, but perhaps their toughest will come on the practice field.

That's because the Lumberjacks will again host their annual alumni football tournament Saturday, Sept. 13, at Cloquet High School, with the team’s seniors facing all challengers.

Organized and created by Cloquet Coach Tom Lenarz in 2009, the 7-on-7 touch-football event is available to any Lumberjack alumni, especially former football players.

Lenarz, in his 13th season coaching at Cloquet, figured the event will last about two hours, with the round robin-knockout bracket tournament beginning with games at 10 a.m.

A post-tournament celebration will be sponsored by Carmen's after all games are completed, including free appetizers for all participants.

With an entry fee of $100 per team, anyone with questions or interest can sign up with Coach Lenarz by emailing attlenarz@cloquet.k12.mn.us or calling 218-879-3393, ext. 1202. Registration deadline is Sept. 11.

All proceeds will directly support Lumberjack football, which hosts its home opener the evening before, Friday, Sept. 12, against Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin at Bromberg Field.

“It is a way for the guys who have played to get together with the current seniors and with each other,” Lenarz said earlier this week. “We have a great time.”

“Everyone else does a golf tournament - we needed something different,” the tournament flier said.
