Legacy drops Moose Lake Area out of playoffs
Legacy Christian Academy defeated Moose Lake Area 6-3 in the first round of Section 5A boys hockey playoffs Tuesday. The teams were tied 3-3 after two periods, but Legacy added three goals in the third to seal the win.
Chase Robideau scored a hat trick for Legacy, with his first goal just 55 seconds into the game, followed by Connor Hansen’s goal at 1:50 for Legacy to take a 2-0 lead.
Moose Lake Area answered back when junior Wyatt Lampel, assisted by Nick Wedge and Michael Lilya, scored at 8:05 and sophomore Brendan Lake scored less than two minutes later to tie the game at 2-2. Lake was assisted by his older brother Hunter Lake and Lilya.
Robideau scored his second goal for Legacy at 1:24 of the second period, but the Rebels’ Bryceton Butkiewicz, with assists by Devin Murphy and Lampel, tied it again at 4:52.
Robideau nailed his hat trick at 9:08 of the third period, and Logan Pierro and Jarvey Hill added goals to finish the game 6-3 in Legacy’s favor.
Logan McNulty made 25 saves in goal for the Rebels, while Nic Leibold stopped 26 shots for Legacy.
The Rebels end their season at 5-18-1 and will graduate Joey Whited, Alex Erickson, Hunter Lake, Richie Parzy and Devin Murphy.
