The Carlton County Chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association (MDHA) will hold its 29th Annual Fall Banquet on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Four Seasons Sports Complex in Carlton. The doors open at 5 p.m.
The banquet kicks off with the presentation of the 2010 Firearms Safety Instructor of the Year Award to Mike Neault of Barnum. He was selected for the award from over 4,000 volunteer instructors across Minnesota. Neault and his wife, Linda, have instructed and mentored hundreds of students from all around Barnum and the Carlton County area. This award will be presented by Capt. Mike Hammer, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Division of Enforcement.
The annual banquet is an important fundraiser for the many projects sponsored by the Carlton County chapter, bringing in thousands of dollars for habitat improvement, hunter education and legislative initiatives. Over the past few years, the Carlton County chapter has sponsored over 100 kids to attend Forkhorn Camp and has provided financial support to several local schools to participate in the National Archery in the Schools program. Equally important is the chapter's role as a strong advocate for deer hunters on issues such as deer feeding, baiting, tree stands and ATVs.
The banquet promises a good meal and lots of prizes, including over 25 guns. Tickets are $50 and include a one-year membership to MDHA. Tickets are advance sale only - tickets are not sold at the door. For ticket information, call Alan Huhta at 218-390-3983 or Gene Fulton from Outdoor Advantage in Cloquet at 218-879-3185.
