As I sit down to type this week’s news, it’s a rainy day and there’s a hint of fall in the air. The football and volleyball seasons are here and we can look forward to school resuming after a great summer, which probably went way too fast for most people. Most schools in Minnesota will start Tuesday, Sept. 6, as will the Cromwell-Wright School. It will be interesting to see how the classes have changed from last year. There will be many new students to our area and we will have lost some, too. So we welcome any new students and I hear there will also be several new teachers and staff as well. I’ll try to give you an update on any new staff after school has started. I still plan to do some subbing this year as I still enjoy the students, staff and being able to help out where needed.
Family and friends of Signe Pitkanen invite you to attend a party at Cardinal Court to celebrate her 100th birthday from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4. She is following in the footsteps of her father, David Maki, who also got to celebrate his 100th year. She still likes to read, do puzzles, enjoys visitors stopping by, and is waiting for the Viking season to begin.
There will be a family-and-friends picnic at Villa Vista at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. Everyone is invited to attend and visit with residents there.
There will be a Cromwell Area Community Club Steak Fry from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. Come for the steak and stay in town for the football game.
It sure is nice to see all the American flags in Cromwell along the main street. These flags were donated by many area folks in honor or in memory of their friends and relatives. There is still time to donate to show your patriotism! Each flag, pole and hanger costs approximately $60. If anyone would be interested in donating towards the purchase of these flags, it would be gratefully appreciated. Send your donation to: City of Cromwell, PO Box 74, Cromwell, MN 55726. memo: flag fund. Thank you!
A celebration of life service was held Aug. 28 at the Solway Town Hall for William "Bill" Peterson who died April 27, 2016 in a tragic accident in Tucson, Ariz. Many family and friends joined Judy, Kari and Kevin for memories, lunch and some of his corny jokes. There was a big attendance for this day of celebration and remembrance of a really great guy! He definitely left this world a better place!
Our sympathy to the family and friends of Zona Mae Lundstrom Turja, 83, who died Aug. 27, 2016 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth. Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 30, in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Esko.
That’s all the news from Lake Goodtobebackhome and hello to all the teachers, students and staff that make our schools such a great place to learn. Thanks!
