Happy Easter. I have heard from so many of you that you enjoy reading the news every week and I am grateful for these comments. I still like writing the news after 35 years, so as long as I am able to write, I will!
The Cromwell Area Young Old Timers (YOT) will meet at noon Tuesday at the Pavilion in Cromwell for their annual Easter potluck dinner and meeting. New members are always welcome to attend.
Our sincere sympathy to the family of Bill Freiermuth, 72, of Cromwell who died Friday, April 7, 2017. Bill had a genuine love for the environment and one of his legacies will be the hundreds of trees his fifth-graders planted on the Cromwell-Wright School grounds.
Our sympathy to the family of Leslie Eugene Heikkila, 81, of Chesterfield, Mo., who died March 18, 2017. He was born Aug. 24, 1936 in Wright to Walter and Margaret Heikkila.
There will be no school April 13-18 due to spring break.
We are thankful that Mike Olson is now home from his recent heart transplant surgery. He says: "Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers and any donation you may have given me or at my benefit. I'm getting stronger every day and doing good. Thanks again."
Barb Dahl has asked me to let you know that Ruby's Pantry is coming to the Cromwell area. This is a food distribution program, which is for everyone, no matter your income, and they will have an informational meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 13, at the Cromwell pavilion. If you are interested in this program, or feel you can volunteer in the future, please attend this important meeting.
The Carlton County Historical Society opens a new exhibit called "A Call to Arms: Carlton County in World War I." Since it was 100 years ago that the U.S. entered WWI on April 6, 1917, the exhibit commemorates that event. Visitors will be able to view the new exhibit, which focuses on Carlton County's involvement in the war. For more information, call 218-879-1938.
The residents from the Villa Vista/Cardinal Court are holding their Annual Good Friday
Service at Bethany Lutheran Church at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 14. All area residents are also encouraged to attend. Brunch will be provided.
April 17-21 is Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Week. On the Carlton County website you can sign up for their Emergency Alert Program. Once signed up, you will be alerted about severe weather emergencies, as well as a variety of other emergencies. You specify how you want to receive these time-sensitive alerts, such as telephone, email, or text. This is a good way to observe this Awareness Week by adding a little protection for yourself and your family.
The Forest Hill Cemetery needs members to attend quarterly meetings. The next meeting is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18. The meetings are important to keep the operation of the cemetery going smoothly and effectively. At this time there are no officers of interested parties. This is a very important meeting for the cemetery, as we need your interest and input to keep this association going. Please come and help take care of your loved ones' graves. If unable to attend, but are interested in helping, call Peggy Olson at 218-390-4210 or Sam Clark at 218-390-2974. The next regular school board meeting is 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the school.
The Cromwell Area Community Club (CACC) is holding "Cromwell Citywide Clean Up Day" Saturday, April 22 (Earth Day). We will meet at the Pavilion at 9 a.m. and disperse around town from there. Lunch will be provided. Everyone is encouraged to help clean up our community. Also, Saturday, May 13 will be our "Community Wide Rummage Sales." Watch for more information on both of these events posted around town.
Donations are also encouraged to help the Cromwell Area Community Club build a gazebo in the small park near the Northview Bank this summer. Donations can be sent to CACC, 1775 Middle Road, Cromwell, MN 55726-8119. Donations can be made in honor or in memory of a loved one, too.
