Redistricting is the process of redrawing the boundaries of election districts and is done in the United States after the completion of the decennial Census. The voters who live in each of the various districts then elect individuals to represent the people of the district in a legislature or other governing body (such as the county board). The purpose of redistricting is to ensure that the people of each district are equally represented.

The Carlton County Board of Commissioners is expected to adopt a redistricting plan for the County at their April 23, 2012, Board Meeting. Prior to the adoption of the redistricting plan, the Board will hold a public hearing to consider public input on the proposed plan. In preparation for this hearing, I have prepared the following documents:

- Notice of Public Hearing on Proposed Redistricting Plan

- Information on redistricting as it pertains to Carlton County

- Spreadsheet depicting population by commissioner district

- Map of proposed commissioner districts

- Map of proposed Cloquet City Wards
