To the Editor:

Opposing a $12.5 million school referendum while a major utility tax issue is being dealt with in the tax court is a responsible thing to do. This utility tax issue could, possibly, create a great tax burden for citizens within this community. The responsible thing to do would be to put the Wrenshall school referendum on hold until this utility tax issue is settled.

Responsibility is looking at all aspects and ramifications of an issue. It is listening to both sides of an issue and weighing the pros and cons. Responsibility is not immediate gratification (a $12.5 million school referendum). It is waiting for all the facts and results to be completed (the utility tax issue) before making a well-educated and responsible decision.

Integrity is allowing people equal time to speak their truth. This allows all voices to be heard, thereby giving the community/citizens information which helps them make an informed decision.

Responsibility and integrity are two valuable qualities which we all should teach and cultivate in our children and grandchildren. We should teach by example. Children should not be used as props.

I am a responsible and well-educated citizen and taxpayer within this community. I will vote NO on April 18 to a $12.5 million Wrenshall school referendum.
