To the editor:

I never thought that like other news outlets the Pine Journal would stoop to hate. I'm referring to a column by retired economist Ann Markusen, "Making sense of tax reform" in the Nov. 30 issue.

How in the world can anyone "know" what the tax bill will do before it is passed? She must be able to see into the future.

The reason I think this is a hate column is there is nothing but negativity in it. To claim "most economists" are skeptical is not true. There are as many who say it is a good bill as there are against it.

To worship a single-payer health system shows a complete lack of knowledge. I don't know enough to talk about it other than I've seen lots of cars with Canadian plates in our health care places. A while back, I was in Germany and was told they pay taxes of 50 percent or more - no wonder they can go to the doctor for "free."

Why does Ms. Markusen think (and write) we taxpayers should subsidize a hybrid car to the tune of $7,500? Why do they "need" to be subsidized?
