To the Editor:
"There's something happening here; what it is ain't exactly clear" ~ Buffalo Springfield
I have been asking questions of my city council members regarding the "emergency meeting" for over a month now. Perhaps "data privacy" and "everything is intertwined in nonpublic data" should be enough to placate me. My original questions (which were printed in this paper) have not been answered.
I have told one of the city council members that I will give a full apology to the council and this community for my comments I made at the April 4 council meeting if I am wrong. Not yet!
The current investigation of the unknown charges will at some point reach a conclusion.
I urge you, fellow citizens, to contact your councilor and have this matter brought to an unbiased group when the investigation is complete, perhaps the citizens advisory board for the police department or city attorney.
Otherwise this decision, under current city policy, will go to the council. And no matter what the results of the investigation, the chief is an at-will employee and on a vote of 4-3 he could be terminated. This has never happened; however, neither had an emergency meeting when there wasn't a flood or other actual emergency.
I also ask for a full investigation of all events leading up to the emergency meeting. These results should be referred to attorneys for full review and further action.
Once that is completed, a "Root Cause Analysis" should be done to ensure this type of situation never occurs again.
Stop all hiring until this situation is concluded.
More Buffalo Springfield..."There's a man with a gun over there.....
It is time for concerned citizens to come together.
