Wright-Cromwell News: April 5 2018

I was able to pull a couple of April Fool's Day pranks on our grandson, but no one even tried to pull one on me. I told Matthew to come and see the deer tracks on his patio in Cloquet. Then, as he was taking out the garbage, I told him the bag was leaking all over the floor, which were both April Fool's tricks. So, nothing big this year.

My mother would always tell about the time her mother would make pancakes for breakfast April 1, but first she cut out circles of cloth and dipped the circles into the batter before frying the cakes. When my grandfather tried to cut them, it just didn't cut, but he never got upset, just enjoyed being pranked. I'm sure most of you have some good stories about this day, too.

One of the best ones is to scrape off the filling on Oreos and replace it with toothpaste, or wrapping grapes in foil so they look like chocolate eggs.

Join us for a Father-Daughter Ball on Saturday, May 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the Cromwell Pavilion. It's sponsored by the Cromwell Area Community Club. Advance ticket prices are $20 per couple and $5 for each additional girl, and $25 per couple at the door and $5 for each additional girl. The cost includes music, dancing, refreshments and a tiara. For questions or to RSVP, contact Cherie Nyberg at 218-644-3731 by April 21. Mail your check to 5728 Eagle Lane, Cromwell, MN 55726. Include all names of attendees with the check.

The Villa Vista/Cardinal Court Good Friday Service and brunch was a huge success. There were over 80 folks in attendance and I even met three new members of our community. There were also three ladies in attendance from the Villa Vista who are over 100 years old.

It was sad to see the passing of Bea Yanda, 99, on March 14. I got to know Bea when she was the county nurse who visited the school from time to time. Bea was one of those very special gals who wasn't afraid to get things done and start new projects, like the first home health aide program in Carlton County.
