I am writing in response to the article, "Cloquet School District projects $850,000 deficit" written on May 16 by Andee Erickson.

Currently, I am a student in the 11th grade at Cloquet High School and I found out about our predicted deficit. Needless to say, I was shocked. People will be losing jobs and that will affect the students. Many students, like myself, bond with our teachers and it would be hard to see them go.

I understand that there is a budget, but cutting valuable personnel to our school is not high up on my list of solutions. Personally, I would take a look at maybe cutting a few classes that have low attendance and not replacing some of the retiring teachers. This would account for a lot of the money needed for the next school year. Other than this solution, we can wait for what Congress is going to give to us for the next school year.

Our faculty and staff are a huge part of who we are here at CHS and to see some let go would be devastating. Hopefully, we can find a better solution than letting our valuable staff go.

Thank you for your time,

Mikayla Paul
