Russell “Russ” E. Nelson

Russell “Russ” Nelson, age 90, of Mora, MN, passed away at Sandstone Health Care Center on June 4, 2021.

Russell Eugene Nelson, was born on February 19, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Nils and Alice (Peterson) Nelson. He grew up in Mahtowa, MN, and graduated from Barnum High School. Russ was drafted into the army, where he learned to drive truck, and served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. He worked at Cloquet paper mill, drove truck after the war for Western Oil, Holiday, and Ewald Dairy. Later in life, Russ did maintenance and janitorial work for Redeemer Residence in Minneapolis until his retirement when he was 62.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson “Sean Weeden”.

Russ is survived by his children Julie (Michael) Warnken, Paula (Gary) Heinonen, Calvin Nelson, Debra (Paul) Kreger, 14 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service 2:00pm Monday, June 7, 2021, at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home, Mora, MN with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Burial at North Maple Ridge Cemetery, Braham, MN. Arrangements by Dresser-Methven Funeral and Cremation Services, Mora, MN.
