He spent 10 years working in research and development at American Can Company before establishing himself at Potlach corporation. On June 20, 1959, Robert married Joanne Boehm. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage before Joanne’s passing in 2011.
A firm believer in higher education, in 2016 he established the Hershey Family Scholarship Fund, helping students to pursue their science or engineering dreams. In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate donations to this scholarship to continue assisting students without the means the education they desire.
He will be terribly missed by his children, William (Shelia), Ted (Teresa), and Susanne (John Shirley); grandchildren, Tracy Ergen, Jackson Hershey, and Julia Hershey; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Joe Ergen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; good friend, Loretta Adams; and his parents.
