Violet M. Axtell, age 88, of Carlton, passed away Monday, September 7, 2020 at Barnes Care in Esko. She was born February 18, 1932 in Gettysburg, S.D. to Alvin and Myrtle (Breitkreutz) Bryant. Violet was united in marriage to David A. Axtell on September 22, 1951. She worked as the Carlton Food Service Manager for Independent School District #93 for 29 ½ years retiring in 1993. Violet was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church; served as president of the Carlton County area Senior Citizens; A.F.S. for 12 years; 4 card clubs; and the Birthday Club for 50 years. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, country music, visiting the casino and video poker.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Axtell; brothers, Raymond Bryant and Leo Bryant; and one sister, Virginia Sell. She is survived by her sons Larry (Deb), Michael (Luanne) and Scott (Lauralie) Axtell; 8 grandchildren, Dan (Jocelyn) Axtell, Shanny (David) Hurst, Nick (Amber) Axtell, Jeremy Axtell, Laura (Nick) Simon, Justine (Troy) Miller, Megan Axtell and Allison Axtell; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gene (Lorna) Bryant; one sister, Marcella Lennartson; one sister-in-law, Mary Bryant; two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Rose) Axtell and Jim (Connie) Abramowski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until the 5:00 p.m. funeral service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Interment service will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Carlton.
