Sherry Linn Winter, age 69, died due to complications from surgery on Wednesday September 4, 2019, at Essentia Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. She was born on July 19, 1950, in Lafayette, Indiana and spent her formative years in Mulberry, IN before moving to Northern Minnesota in 1979.
The two great loves of Sherry’s life were people and horses. A devoted mother and grandmother as well as a treasured friend, she began her profession in the nursing field and after opening her home to those with disabilities, her occupation became the owner/operator of Winter Homes, a supportive living facility. From her childhood pony, Bobby Robert, she began a legacy of horsemanship that evolved into showing, raising, and training horses with her family at the center of it all. For many years she organized the Southwest Saint Louis County fair and 4H horse shows in Floodwood, MN. Most recently, she was an accomplished cowboy mounted shooter with the CMSA. Sherry married her longtime friend, Tom Young, on July 16, 2016.
Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Rex Chittick; daughter, Renée; brother-in-law, Ted Ware and great uncle, Presty. Survivors include her mother, Norma Roth; husband, Tom Young; her children, Timothy (Jessie), Dietrich (Sarah) and Dustin (Amy)Winter; her sisters, Sue Ann (James) Rigsby, Cynthia Lou (Steve) Linton, Sandra Jo (Gary) Kinsler; step-children; Tom (Samantha) Young Jr., Mandy (Weston) Dornhecker and Amber Laura Young; grandchildren, Preston, Travis (Kelsey), Tyler, Parker (Kirsten), Eli, Sadie, Khan, Anwen, Aedea and Kaia; great- grandchildren, Riley, Madelin and Kira; step-grandchildren, Bradley, Bennett and Huldor as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019, at Nelson Funeral Care. Visitation will continue Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at Nelson Funeral Care. Interment will be in Arrowhead Cemetery in Brookston.
