Marlene Ann Maijala

Marlene Ann Maijala, 81 of Barnum, MN passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born October 4, 1939 to Mathew and Ann (Socher) Schelonka in Little Falls, MN. Marlene grew up in Cloquet, attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1957. She worked as a secretary at Northwest Paper until she married Arne, the love of her life and, together, they had four children. Marlene worked as a substitute teacher at the Esko Schools and worked for the literacy program teaching for numerous years. She baked every Christmas cookie there was. Marlene was a woman of great faith, a member of the church circle, and taught religion classes. Her greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years; her children, Teresa (Ron) Tondryk, Melissa (Gary) Parker, Arne (Yvette) Maijala Jr., and John (Lisa) Maijala; grandchildren, Brooke (Ryan) Lee, Sarah (Evan) Wondrasek, Miriah Parker, Mikayla Maijala, Anja Maijala, Noah Parker and AJ Maijala; great grandchildren, Cruz, Jett, Eva, and Indie Lee, and Olivia Wondrasek; her sisters, Dorene Brtek and Doris Leppi; her brother, Dennis Schelonka; numerous nieces and nephews and her Godchildren, Joseph Maijala, Lee Schelonka and Lisa Figueroa.

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church held from 4-6 p.m., with the rosary starting at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday, May 3, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She will be entombed in a niche at New Calvary Cemetery.
