George Otis Baker
George Otis Baker, 93 of Blackhoof Township passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 in Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet with his loving family by his side. He was born January 25, 1926 in Blackhoof to Walter and Lena Baker. He grew up and attended school in Blackhoof. George served in the US Army from 1944 until 1946. After his discharge he returned to Blackhoof and on April 30, 1947 he married Helen Bates. She passed away in 1953. On June 5, 1954 he married Lucille Charon. George worked at Northwest Paper and later Potlatch for 41 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club, the Carlton VFW and during the 1960's and 70's the Blackhoof Snowmobile Club. In addition to snowmobiling, George enjoyed fishing, camping and playing horseshoes. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by two wives, Helen and Lucille; brothers, LeRoy, Walter, and Harold Baker; sisters, Bernice Green and Dorothy Carlson; sons-in-law, John Sehlin and Dennis Rask; and great granddaughter, Natalie Christine Jones.
He is survived by seven children, Diane Sehlin of Cloquet, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Phil) Danielson of White Bear Lake, Carol (Gary Weierke) Steele of Woodbury, Kathleen (Doug) Jones of Moose Lake, George "Butch" (Lisa) Baker of Barnum, Lois (Bill) Drazich of Cloquet and Cheryl (Lyle) Tate of Carlton; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Monday, June 10, 2019 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Carlton. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carlton VFW Honor Guard.
