Carroll Emery Saeland
Carroll Emery Saeland went to join his son Robert (Bobby) in heaven on December 1, 2018 at 90yrs while surrounded by family. Carroll was born Dec. 13th 1927 to Carl and Emily Saeland in Mahnomen, MN. He was a hard worker his entire life: he started logging at the age of 14yrs, left home at 17yrs to work in Duluth at the Kelly Thompson How company as a runner in the warehouse. Later that year he sailed the Great lakes on the W.H. McGean Steamboat. At 18yrs he enlisted into the Airforce, where he spent 4 years in Germany and extended his service by 3 years when the Korean war was starting. Carroll met Madeline Frankhauser while stationed in New York. Carroll and Madeline married December 7, 1952. Carroll worked as a mechanic for the next 10 years in New York, until they moved their family to Cloquet, MN in 1962. He spent the rest of his working career at Potlatch until he retired. Carroll is preceded in death by his parents, son Robert, grandson Matthew, siblings Franchin, Marian, Eugene and Leonard. *Carroll will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 66yrs Madeline, Children Judy (Larry) Brown of McGregor, Deborah (Dave) Gellatly of Esko, Katherine (Rich) Pretzloff of Lakeville and Patti Johnson of Mississippi, 14 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren, brothers Monty and Raymond and numerous nieces and nephews. *On June 1, 2019 family will be celebrating the life of Carroll at the VFW in Cloquet from 1-4pm and welcome all those who knew him and his family.
