Ethelyn Lorrayne Hayes

Ethelyn Lorrayne Hayes, 88, of Cloquet, died Tuesday, December 18, 2018. She was born October 18, 1930 in Kettle River, the daughter of Jacob and Ida Kothala.

Ethelyn attended grade school in Kettle River and was a 1948 graduate of Moose Lake High School. She married Vernon Hayes on September 1, 1949.

Ethelyn worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Diamond Match and through the years had many other part time jobs. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cloquet and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kettle River. After retirement, Ethelyn and Vernon enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ and spent their summers in Moose Lake.

She is fondly remembered as a happy and loving person who was kind to everyone. Ethelyn loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, singing, playing the piano, and dancing. Ethelyn loved to shop, walk, and enjoy a glass of wine.

Ethelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; and four siblings, Elaine O'Donnell, Mae Duffield, Ed Kothala, and Ray Kothala.

Her laughter and love will be missed by her family. She is survived by her children, Lynda (Barry Pink) Hayes-Pink of Solon Springs, Kelly Hayes of Minneapolis, and Cheryl Hayes; four grandchildren, Judd Thomson, Tiffany (Joel) Karns, Ryan (April) Rennquist, and Casey (Annette) Rennquist; five great grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Helen Starr of Gilbert, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service, Monday, May 20, 2019 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Her final resting place will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Kettle River.
