David Carlin Willie
David Carlin Willie, 87 of Sawyer, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in New Perspective Assisted Living. He was born October 18, 1931 in Osakis to Henry and Hattie Willie. David grew up in Eagle Bend. He moved to Cloquet in the early 1950's and worked at Potlatch. He joined the Navy and served his country from 1951 until 1954. David married Marlene Johnson on June 20, 1953. After his discharge he moved to Sawyer and continued working at Potlatch until retiring in 1997.
David enjoyed farming, hunting, and making diamond willow walking sticks. He was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonny "Punky" Willie; brothers, Rueben, Wallace, Clinton and Bob; and sisters, Darlene Willie and Delores Mueller.
David is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Marlene; children, Randy (Jane) of Carlton, Gary of Cloquet, Penny (Don) Sheldon of Sawyer, and Scott of Faribault; sister, Yvonne (Jerry) Anderson of Eagle Bend; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Saturday, April 13, 2019 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Military Honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow. Inurnment will be in Sawyer Cemetery.
