Janice Hazel Olsen
Janice Hazel Olsen, age 82, formerly of Carlton, passed away peacefully at Prairie Senior Cottages in Alexandria, MN. She was born on October 16, 1936 in Cloquet, to Melvin and Hazel Anderson. Jan was a graduate of Cloquet High School in 1954. She went on to attend St. Lukes Nursing School, Duluth, graduating in 1957. She was married to Thomas H. Olsen of Mahtowa on November 15, 1957 at Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet. They had 44 years together before his passing in 2002.
Jan was a homemaker and mother of 3 children. She also enjoyed working at Zion Lutheran Church, Cloquet, as a part-time secretary. Jan was involved in the Carlton County Gem and Mineral Club and was editor/publisher of the "Agate Picker" bulletin for many years. Jan's many hobbies included knitting, cross-stitch, sewing, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a special love for music, especially classic country and gospel music. Jan was also a wonderful piano player.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Hazel, and husband, Thomas.
Jan is survived by her son, Lee (Kim) Olsen of Carlton; daughters, Lynn (Mike) Tatro of Alexandria and Kris (Paul) Gillund of Independence; grandchildren, Stephanie (Robbie) Cooper, Samuel Olsen, Jason (Melonie) Brown, Jack Gillund, Ben Gillund, and two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Cullen Brown.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service, Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.
