Home visit program awarded $2.1M
Dignitaries from the Minnesota Department of Health and three partner counties visited Cloquet to highlight the Carlton-Cook-Lake St. Louis Community Health Board’s recent award of $2.1 million to expand their Healthy Families America home visiting program.
The Healthy Families America program is an evidence based multi-generational approach that helps pregnant and parenting families be successful. The Health Board is one of 16 communities across Minnesota that will share more than $25 million made possible through 2017 legislation signed into law by Gov. Mark Dayton.
Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm, officials from Carlton, Cook, Lake and St. Louis counties, home visiting staff and families attended a news conference Aug. 24 in the Community Services Building in Cloquet.
The group also highlighted the current construction on Cloquet Avenue, which includes new bike lanes and bump-outs in the 1-mile length of the main downtown thoroughfare. The project is an example of construction that values all modes of transportation. It came about thanks to The Active Transportation Coalition in Cloquet and its partners including the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership and BlueCross and Blue Shield’s Center for Prevention.
