Another 108 people in the Northland have tested positive for COVID-19 and two more residents have died from the illness as of Friday.

St. Louis County recorded both of those deaths. They were in their early 70s and late 80s, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. The county has now lost 239 residents to COVID-19.

New cases and seven-day averages in Northland counties:

  • Koochiching — 5; 2.6.
  • Lake — 4; 6.4.

  • Bayfield — 0; 4.3.
  • Douglas — 27; 16.6.

Minnesota reported 1,640 new cases and 33 deaths on Friday, while the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 2,269 cases and 32 more deaths.

About 550 more residents in the seven-county region of Northeastern Minnesota have received a COVID-19 vaccine as of Jan. 12. St. Louis County logged 307 of them, Aitkin County recorded 137, Carlton County had 43 and Itasca County recorded 32.

About 162,000 Minnesotans have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 24,745 of those people have completed the vaccine series of two doses.

Minnesota updates its vaccine administration data every weekday, while Wisconsin updates its data every Tuesday.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 remain relatively stable in the region. On Thursday, 55 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in the region, according to state's Friday update. Ten of those people were in intensive care.

Nearly 14% of ICU beds were available in Northeastern Minnesota and nearly 22% of non-ICU beds were available.
