If you're frantically scurrying this way and that way this holiday season, "making that list and checking it twice" for the perfect gift - or if you have no one around to plan for and celebrate with - one of the things you can check off your list this year is Christmas dinner.

Plan to join neighbors and fellow community members in supporting or attending the 15th Annual Cloquet Area Christmas Day Dinner, held at Zion Lutheran Church and supported by local industries, businesses, service organizations and individuals.

The dinner is open to anyone and everyone who will be alone or in need of a meal on Christmas Day. Community members are invited to come for the food - and stay for the fellowship. The dinner is free and open to the public, with funds and volunteer services donated by local businesses and individuals who want to share the holiday spirit as their gift to others.

The traditional Christmas dinner, complete with all the trimmings, will be served beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Avenue, Cloquet. Contact the Zion church office at (218) 879-4647 to order a meal for delivery or to arrange for transportation to the dinner from Aspen Arms or Larson Commons. Take-out meals are also available.

Last year, some 400 meals were served at the annual event, about a third of which were delivered to people unable to come to the church for the dinner.

"This year we are hoping to serve 500 meals, on site and by delivery," said Dave Johnson of Zion's Congregational Ministry Committee. "We hope to make Christmas a little brighter for those who need this program."

In order to make the annual Community Christmas Dinner possible, donations are needed to help purchase the items needed for the meal. Also, the gift of your time might be just the holiday solution you've been seeking by volunteering to help with food preparation, decorating, serving, cleanup or any of a number of other tasks.

For more information, or to donate or volunteer, call the church office at (218) 879-4647.
