At the start of the softball season, AlBrook head coach Tim Anvid understood his team was young and would experience some ups and downs. But he also understood his girls were fighters and would learn how to win.
The Falcons started the year slowly by losing their first four contests, but Anvid's group hung together and eventually rattled off wins in four of their next six contests to improve their record. As the season continued, AlBrook continued to gain confidence on the diamond, knocking off tough clubs like Lakeview Christian Academy and Isle. They only lost by a single run to powerhouse teams like Cook County and Carlton.
The Falcons closed their 2009 campaign 6-10 after a tough 7-5 loss to Lakeview Christian Academy in the first round of the Section 7A playoffs. But even though the season ended there for the young group that lost four starters from last year's impressive 14-2 squad, Anvid was proud of their efforts.
With only losing a pair of seniors in pitcher Tiana Luczak and third baseman Heidi Willeck, Anvid's club will return a number of experienced players to the diamond next season, look for the Falcons to be among the top teams in the Northland come next spring.
