The Cloquet based Minnesota XPlosion U-18 Girls Softball team has gotten off to a solid start in both league and tournament play.

The XPlosion opened play the week of June 9 with a pair of league games against the always-tough Duluth Aerials and the Duluth Thunder.

Katrina Korman tossed a three-hitter and struck out 13 against the Aerials, but the normally potent XPlosion offense fizzled and the game ended in a scoreless tie.

The XPlosion finally got their bats going in game two against the Duluth Thunder in a 15-1 victory. Rachel Tondryk had three hits and scored twice while also pitching her team to the win. Alyssa Hanson added two hits in the game and Stacie Miller scored three runs.

Last weekend the XPlosion traveled to Wisconsin to play in a tournament in Eau Claire. The XPlosion knocked off the Eau Claire Heat, Lakeville and Alexandria before falling to Eveleth.

Tondryk picked up the pitching win over Eau Claire in a 7-0 XPlosion victory. She gave up just three hits in pitching the shutout. On offense it was Jeris Gellatly who provided most of the fireworks by bashing a three-run home run in the third inning to ignite the XPlosion. Gellatly was 3-for-3 in the game as was Hanson.

Game two action saw the XPlosion and Lakeville trade big first innings, but from that point on it was all XPlosion as they powered their way to a 17-3 victory. Sami Mattson led the charge with three hits.

In game three the XPlosion scored six times in the first inning on six hits, a walk and one hit batter in their 9-1 win over Alexandria. Miller, Gellatly and Courtney Esse all bashed out a pair of hits in the win and Tondryk added a triple.

The XPlosion then fell 4-0 to Eveleth in their final game as they managed just six hits for the game. Gittings had two hits in the game for the XPlosion.
