Wrenshall man rescued from St. Louis River island

Authorities responded to a report of person floating on an ice chunk in the river Friday, March 26.

First responders rescued a Wrenshall man from an island on the St. Louis River in Cloquet on Friday, March 26.

The Cloquet Area Fire District and Cloquet Police Department responded to a water rescue call at the state Highway 33 bridge at the St. Louis River at approximately 7:30 p.m.

A caller had reported a person floating on an ice chunk near the bridge, according to a news release from the fire department.

John Sylvester Jurek, 20, located on an island in the river and rescued without incident, according to the Cloquet Police Department report.
