Cloquet fell in the championship game of the Wood City Classic Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday to St. Michael-Albertville and Wrenshall came up with a victory in the third place game of the same tournament.
The Lumberjacks defeated Wrenshall in their opening game of the tournament 60-30 with a dominating inside performance by Nishah Dupuis who finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. Kami Diver led the Jacks with 15 points, Jes Vork scored 12, both Laura Wappes and Jill Rosenthal had four points each, Hannah Roy recorded eight, Ashton Johnson finished with two and Colleen McFarlane scored a point.
Danna Anderson led the Wrens with nine, Danielle Anderson finished with seven, Samantha Anderson and Andrea Gould both had four, Wendy Bowman, Emma Grover and Katie Manning both finished with two points.
- The other opening round game saw St. Michael-Albertville defeat St. Paul Humboldt 79-44.
- In the championship game St. Michael-Albertville took a quick lead over the Jacks, cruised to a 34-16 halftime lead and then went on to a 69-42 win to take the title.
Four different players were in double figures for St. Michael-Albertville with Brittani Wiese scoring 12 points, and Lexi Thompson, Natalie Dick and Nicole Steffens all finished with 10 points.
Kami Diver led the Jacks with 22 points, Taylor Sautbine had five, Dupuis scored four, Hannah Roy, Rosenthal and Johnson all scored three and Becca Rowenhorst finished with two points.
- In the third-place game Wrenshall took a 10-point halftime lead and sustained that throughout the second half in taking a 54-44 win over St. Paul Humboldt.
Danielle Anderson tossed in 16, Samantha Anderson poured in 13, Andrea Gould had 14, Dana Anderson finished with four, Manning recorded three, and both Bowman and Grover added two points.
Ellie Jennings led Humboldt with 15 points.
